Folks, it is time that we stop falling into the same trap that Americans have fallen into for the past 30 years. What trap is this? Believing politicians’ rhetoric when they are running for office. We saw this on a massive scale in Obama as he ran on a more centrist platform. The reality was that he was an extreme liberal. All one had to do, to know this, was look at his track record.
Fast forward to 2012 and this election cycle. Enter Mitt Romney, the serial flip-flopper. Look at his track record and it is apparent he is a big-government corporatist. By the way, of the two candidates running for the presidency, Mitt Romney is the only one that has actually banned guns. Yup, they instituted an assault-weapons ban in Massachusetts when he was governor. Currently, Mitt Romney is campaigning on repealing Obamacare. This healthcare plan is basically a carbon copy of his in Massachusetts. Once again, if you believe his rhetoric, I have some swampland to sell you.
Now enter stage right, Paul Ryan. He has become a darling of conservatives and Tea Party types. He likes to talk about small government. He likes to talk about fiscal responsibility. He likes to mention the Constitution and our God-given rights. Scoundrel. Yes, he is a scoundrel because he has somehow convinced well-meaning people that he stands for these things. The facts are that he doesn’t. Once again, all one needs to do is look at his voting record:
Voted Yes for the TARP bailout of Wall Street
Voted Yes for the GM and Chrysler bailouts
Voted Yes to make the Patriot Act permanent
Voted Yes for the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA)
Voted Yes for No-Child Left Behind
Voted Yes for the Medicare Part D Prescription Drug Plan
Reality vs. Rhetoric. Will we continue to fall prey to talking points or will we finally wake up to reality? Obama is definitely not the answer, but neither is Mitt Romney/Paul Ryan. Playing politics is what got America into this mess and as long as we continue to go with the lesser of two evils, we will continue our descent into oblivion. We need to recognize real candidates when we see them, people like Ron Paul who have track records that prove them to be honest and principled. The only guy currently running that meets this description is Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson. He will be getting my vote over these other scoundrels who are running. And yes my vote probably isn’t going to matter, or to hear the Republican argument, voting for anyone but Mitt is a vote for Obama. Hogwash. What if we all voted for the Libertarian candidate or at least didn’t vote for a Republican or Democrat? I think you would actually see this country begin to turn itself around.
